M/SA - ORATORIO / CONTINUUM 01·27 1
ORATORIO
ORATORIO asserts the sacred dimension of fashion and clothing. Sakina M’sa imagines each piece as a companion in spirituality, bringing together her personal history: the Islam of the Comoros, Mary and Marseille’s Bonne Mère, and thirty years of Buddhist practice. The collection also carries a conviction: fashion can no longer ignore the state of the planet. Every material and every garment can be transformed and given a new life.
CONTINUUM 01·27
ORATORIO opens the CONTINUUM journey in 2027. Its name brings together ORAISON, a time of contemplation and prayer, and SATORI, the instant of awakening when the familiar is suddenly revealed differently. Like a musical oratorio, the collection is composed of several voices forming one narrative: SOULAGES, MONDRIAN, ELEVATION, CHIROMANI and BREATH.
SOULAGES –> LIGHT
Black becomes matter, depth and light. Echoing Pierre Soulages and Outrenoir, textures and sheen capture light and transform the perception of the body. Finding light within black.
MONDRIAN –> ESSENTIAL
Geometry becomes a tool for reduction and reconstruction. Materials, colours and textures from different origins are cut, fragmented and reassembled to create new essentials, in tribute to Mondrian and Saint Laurent: refine in order to reach the essential.
ELEVATION –> MYO-MYSTERY
The chevron, a recurring Sakina M’sa code, symbolically leaves the floor and points towards the sky. It structures and elongates the body, turning line into architecture and architecture into elevation. Its repetition evokes the gesture of fine craftsmanship, a musical pulse or a mantra.
CHIROMANI –> TRANSMISSION
CHIROMANI connects the collection to the Comoros, to women, ceremonies and transmission. It meets ylang-ylang, whose flower becomes a sign and an imprint. Tradition is not reproduced: it circulates, transforms and continues to live. Its mantra is: “KILA KITU KINA UHAI - CONTINUUM” -
“Everything carries life - Continuum”.
BREATH –> LIFE AND VERTIGO
Textile waste from the studio is reborn through cutting, accumulation and assembly with raffia. The material trembles, moves and comes back to life. Resonating with Nick Cave’s Soundsuits, the garment becomes a second skin, a protection and a passage. What was meant to disappear becomes desire. Matter takes breath.
THE CONTINUUM PRINCIPLE
Every piece follows the same principle: beginning with already existing textile materials - fragments, deadstock, roll ends and partner materials - or with existing garments, and transforming them into a new piece. The first life is not erased but extended. A material or garment does not end: it becomes the beginning of another life.
